I could tell you from my English teaching experience that the best kind of English book is one that is simple, clean and covers a lot of information. Language to Go Intermediate is a book that holds all of these qualities. It is well balanced, informative, helpful, and most importantly, fun.
"This book is fantastic. Language to Go is for students on-the-go, and students will find it useful when when travelling to any English speaking country."
Overview
Language to Go Intermediate covers quite a lot in its 128-page size. There are 40 well-organized lessons (yes, 40!) each including vocabulary, speaking ,reading, listening, and a “Get Talking and Writing” section at the end of each unit to review the student’s new skills. The book takes a direct and minimalist approach; focusing on important grammar points and offering simple activities to help the student practice what they have learned. The listening and reading portions are kept at a good length, not being too long or too short. The speaking activities are perfect for group or pair work and they can even be used for private classes. In the back of the book there are practice activities, which make good homework assignments for students especially since additional workbooks won’t be needed. There is also a grammar reference to further explain the grammar concepts in each unit and some more group activities for further speaking practice.
Pros:
•Great unit-to-unit flow that’s easy to teach as well as learn.
•Simple and clean style along with charming photos and drawings which make every chapter enjoyable and visually appealing.
•Teaches a lot in its 40 units and it is full of great activities that get the students speaking.
•“Language To Go” boxes in every corner of every unit give good, brief examples of the target language.
•Includes a handy phrasebook that has many words and expressions that can be used in many situations.
Cons:
•No review units.
•Some practice activities may be too easy (word search/crossword puzzle etc.)
Recommended For:
•Small groups, big classes, and private lessons.
•Teachers who want a book that is simple and effective.
•Students who want to work on their all four English skills (Reading/writing/listening/speaking).
•Schools that have shorter lesson times ( less than one hour).
Overall, this book is fantastic. Language to Go is for students on-the-go, and students will find it useful when when travelling to any English speaking country. This book is practical and it teaches necessary skills, useful expressions, language that is used in normal, everyday English and most importantly it encourages the student to speak. All grammar points are covered –from verb tenses to modals, conditionals, verb patterns and more. It is a great book and I highly recommend it to teachers who are teaching Intermediate level students.
