Sara Kay

My thesis topic was Michelangelo’s letter of 1542, and I managed to do almost all of the Italian translations myself.

Hi, Sara! Can you tell us a bit about your background and why you decided to learn Italian?

Certainly! I’m an 82-year-old retired physician. When I was younger, I lived with a family in Italy for six weeks. It was a wonderful experience, and I did pick up some Italian. About ten years ago, I started taking classes for a Master’s Degree in Art History at New Mexico State University, and I realized I needed to improve my Italian.

How did you get started with Language Trainers?

I found Language Trainers through an online search, and they referred me to Francesca, who teaches Italian from Rome via Skype.

What has been the most rewarding outcome of your lessons?

The most rewarding outcome has been earning my Master’s Degree. My thesis topic was Michelangelo’s letter of 1542, and I managed to do almost all of the Italian translations myself.

That’s fantastic! Even after achieving your Master’s Degree, you’re still taking lessons with Francesca. What keeps you motivated?

Yes, I continue with Francesca because the lessons are so enjoyable. She’s flexible with scheduling, and she has an excellent grasp of English, Spanish, French, and of course, Italian. With her help, I’ve made great progress.

What would you say to someone considering lessons with Language Trainers?

I highly recommend Language Trainers and Francesca. It’s been such a fulfilling experience, and I truly feel supported in my language-learning journey.
